The other day I did a real quick write up on James Corey’s Leviathan Wakes (which was a great little space opera, if that’s your thing) and lo and behold today I come across a trailer for a 10 episode series SyFy is doing called The Expanse (based on Leviathan Wakes).

I’m interested to see what they do with this. In my estimation there haven’t been many good space based stories on television recently. Last one that really held my attention was Battlestar Galactica and even that fell off in the last few seasons. So, fingers crossed.

I agree – I liked the first two seasons of BG but then wasn’t interested in following it any more. Keep us posted on when this new series might appear! I’ll watch..at least the first episode.

I agree, first few seasons of BG were great and then it just went meh… oh well.

I’ll try and keep up with this one and let you know how it turns out.

I’m presuming this is being released in the States? I haven’t seen any trails for the series here in the UK – and would be seriously interested, as I really enjoyed The Expanse trilogy by Cory. It would be fascinating to see how they handle the very ‘icky’ bits in the book…

I did a little searching and couldn’t find any information on whether it’ll be released in the UK or not. If not then I’ll watch the episodes and live-tweet the action.. wait.. no, that sounds a lot like reading the book, which you’ve done. Dangit, you might be out of luck until it gets picked up by Netflix or something similar.

I, too, am interested to see how they handle certain story elements. Not the simplest story to tell, that’s for certain.

Thank you for taking the time to find out for me – I appreciate it:).

Don’t worry – if it’s successful, it’ll probably cross the pond as one of Syfy’s shiny new series. And if not, then I’ll probably have had a luck escape, seeing just how badly TV can mangle perfectly good book series (recalling The Dresden Files with a shudder.) But I would love you to maybe do an article to give your thoughts when you see it…

I love The Expanse (reading the third one right now) and was so hopeful that they would approach this with a similar quality to how Game of Thrones was produced, but that trailer shows clearly that it will be much cheaper and less ‘real’ than Thrones. Too bad.

Yeah, the trailer didn’t really do it for me, but I’m gonna hold out hope until I see the first episode. I’ll probably be back to rant after my heart is torn to shreds!

I recently binged on all four seasons of BSG and have to say I didn’t think the quality dropped. Saying that, the last episode made me want to cry and not in a good way – in a Phantom Menace kinda way.

Oh, god. Not the phantom menace. Though, that’s a fantastic analogy, actually.

I don’t like the later seasons of BSG as much as the early seasons, but that doesn’t mean I won’t lay on the couch and binge watch them until my muscles atrophy and I devolve into a ball of goo.
